Jerome Griffin didn’t grow up with the knowledge of the existence of Cryptids. Most of the general public living in the Costa Region didn’t.

He swears he saw a Mermaid when he was drowning in an ocean one day when he was young. His parents pulled him out of the water just as he was about to be pulled under, and he spoke of this event many times during his adolescence causing most of his peers to shun him.

Adults told his parents that they should have him tested, and some thought that he should be committed into a special psychiatric ward to help with his ‘mental illness’.

Despite this, Jerome persevered, eventually finding a family of Wolpertingers in the Enchanted Forest beside his home near the Murky Swamps. This got him noticed by Grover Holland, who started sending him his Cryptid Newsletter called ‘Poor Grover’s Almanac’, before being called to action alongside Maurice Lamar.

After helping discover the location of a mysterious island that had been lost for centuries, Jerome bonds with his first Cryptid Partner, Bunny the Bunyip.

Years after his adventure with Maurice, he began writing his own journal, collecting notes of the history of the Cryptid world in the Costa Region, calling it ‘Jerome’s Journal: An Encyclopedia of Cryptids and Other Mythical Creatures’. This book became the standard textbook for beginning Cryptid Hunters around the world.
